Lana Marcus, Head of School

Lana Marcus began her career at Adat Ari El as our Head of School for the Trana & Ronald Labowe Family Day School in 1986.  Before coming to Adat Ari El, she was the principal at Temple Etz Chaim Torah School in Thousand Oaks.  Prior to that move, she held various consultant and teaching positions at Beth Shalom School, Los Angeles Hebrew High School, and Emanuel Community Day School.  Lana received her Master’s degree in Education from Jewish Theological Seminary in 1978.  She received her BA from the University of Toronto in 1976.  In that same year, she earned her teaching certificate from the Toronto, Midrasha Le Morim.

Lana is especially proud of our Day School and sees her commitment to programs, course study and ruach reflected in the success of her graduates in Middle School, High School and in their lives.

Outside of our community, Lana is part of the Personnel Committee of the Bureau of Jewish Education, the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA, Party on the Pier Event Planning Committee, and the Accreditation Committee for the California Association of Independent Schools.  Lana is also the 1996 winner of the Milken Distinguished Educator Award.

Lana has grown personally as well as professionally here at Adat Ari El.  She met and married her husband, David Marcus and her twins grew up at the Adat Ari El schools, being graduated from the Day School in 2008.  They are now all enjoying the separation anxiety as the twins head on to Milken Community Middle School and Heschel Middle School and Lana and David spend much more time in car pool lines.
