Joanne Klein, Executive Director

Joanne Klein began her career at Adat Ari El as our Executive Director in July 2006.  Prior to coming here, she was the Chief Financial Officer for the Stephen S. Wise Temple and had served on the Synagogue Board of Temple Beth Am, holding different positions over the years, including Vice President of Ways & Means and Vice President of Budget & Finance.  Her career began with over 20 years of private and public accounting, where she earned a CPA designation.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge with an emphasis in accounting in 1983.

In addition to the traditional role as Executive Director of a major Conservative Synagogue, Joanne uses her financial background to assist Adat Ari El in staying on track financially and in helping the financial assistance committee for the shul and the schools.  Joanne is especially proud of her work of revamping the financial assistance process and the help she offers to all committees of Adat Ari El.  She is especially proud of the administrative staff and the hard work and challenges they face with intelligence and a smile. 

Outside of our community, Joanne participates in the North American Association of Synagogue Executives conferences and activities and works with local Synagogue Executive Directors as part of the Pacific Association of Temple Administrators.

Joanne takes great pleasure in working with the congregants and families of Adat Ari El and has truly found a warm, welcoming community to be connected to as a staff person, here to help, and as a Jew on her own journey.

Joanne was named Joanne Klein at birth and always felt that the name suited her, so when she began to date Paul Klein, she knew it was meant to be.  They were married in 2004 and combined their families so they could share their love for Joshua, Rebecca, Rebecca and Aaron.  (Yes, they have more in common than just a last name!)
