Trana & Ronald Labowe Confirmation/Seminar Institute
Confirmation/Seminar Institute The Trana & Ronald Labowe Confirmation/Seminar Institute at Adat Ari El provides a wonderful opportunity for teens to learn and socialize in a positive Jewish environment. Research shows that the years following B’nai Mitzvah are crucial in the development of a strong Jewish identity. The AAE Confirmation/Seminar program understands this and provides an educational framework that is relevant and meaningful to our teens, therefore positively influencing their lives. Students are taught by our Rabbis and rabbinical students from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the AJU, who offer a “peer” perspective and integrate the issues that are “real” to teens with a Jewish perspective. Schedule Our program typically meets Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and includes a core curriculum, tefillah, a social dinner hour, electives and a warm atmosphere that encourages lively interaction and discussion, while meeting the diverse needs and interests of the students. Confirmation Program Curriculum The Confirmation Program starts in the 7th grade and runs through 10th grade. The curriculum is offered in three 7-week trimesters per year, usually beginning right after the conclusion of the fall Chagim. Age appropriate classes are separated by grade level and are designed to meet the needs of all students, regardless of their Jewish educational background. Parent/Teen Nights Students and their families come together for our Parent/Teen Nights, where they have the chance to participate in separate parallel programming on topics of interest and importance, such as teen suicide prevention, dating violence, drinking & driving, and other sensitive issues. Parent/Teen Nights include dinner as well as the program The Seminar Institute The Seminar Institute is for students in 11th and 12th grades who are seeking an opportunity to pursue a more intensive and focused study and exploration of Jewish themes in preparation for high school graduation and the transition to a college setting. Each year, one outstanding Seminar graduate is presented with the Israel Levin Award, which recognizes the student who has excelled academically, Jewishly, and who has also written an outstanding essay on a selected topic. Our Educators Our educators are diverse in their backgrounds and passionate about Judaism and education. We are privileged to have both Rabbis Bernhard and Silver as members of our faculty, as well as our students from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the AJU, the Fingerhut School of Education at the AJU and from the Partners in Prevention program at Beit T’shuvah. Our curriculum includes courses on Conservative Judaism, Israel History & Current Events, Leadership Development & Training, Ethics, and many other topics. Annual dues for our award-winning USY chapter is also included in Confirmation/Seminar Tuition each year, which provides students another opportunity to come together in an informal setting to develop their personal bonds of friendship and experience our outstanding USY programming.
